01 Jul The Way of Fate
There are moments in life when you question the reasons for being in situations that you are in… and then all of a sudden you realize why….
We have been in Kiribati for as long as I can remember. We have become part of the local community – We know all three local songs that they repeat over and over at the dodgy “nightclubs” off by heart. We have also made great friends from all walks of life, out here in Kiribati. There are Mormons, volunteers, High Commissions, teachers, you name it – trying to help out the dying infrastructure of the community.
This is how I have come to meet Matt. Matt is from New Zealand and he is here working with the Asian Development Bank. Matt and I have spent many Saturday’s here watching the Tri Nations rugby, along with Mark – we were the local Tri Nations here, sitting in a living room.
Matt has invited me to join him in New Zealand for two weeks, to watch the Rugby World Cup and to attend the South Africa – Wales’s game. It is an offer I cannot refuse.
If we had not stayed so long in Kiribati, I would not have met Matt, and I would not be going to watch the RWC in New Zealand. Fate has a funny way of turning things around.
Hopefully the engine parts arrive in the next few days, and Ice is able to depart Kiribati for good. I will be waiting for them in Fiji around the 20th of September. I wish my fellow team fair weather and seas for their upcoming journey.
I will be keeping up my part of the blog while in New Zealand.
Ciao for now… Mel
